    Description

In november 2006, Sega released a game for GBA called "Sonic Genesis". This is not that game

This port consists of title screen, the complete GHZ acts 1-3, and the Special Stage, and was constructed between December 2006 and February 2007. It was written in C, with the gameplay code translated from a disassembly of the original game, combined with data taken from the original game and converted for use with the GBA by my own utilities, and with my own I/O code (with the exception of the AAS sound library). It plays exactly like the original with the following (intentional) exceptions:

    - The screen size is smaller (obviously)
    - If the player's speed increases beyond the "maximum" by slope force, etc., it isn't taken away when holding the D-pad
    - Landing on spikes while flashing doesn't cause death (even though that was not a "bug")
    - The Spindash is available
    - Tails and Knuckles are playable

This port was built as hard evidence that Sonic 1 could indeed be made to run on the GBA without having to become an insult to itself and all of the talented people responsible for it's original incarnation

For comparison, there is a video of Sega's "Sonic Genesis" here:
