    This is a complete playthrough of the new "Gemstone Garden" level in my example Sonic the Hedgehog game for HCGE, my multi-platform 2D game engine

    This game is an open series of scripts and data that demonstrate how to make a complete game with HCGE, and can be used as a basis to create other Sonic "fan-games", or stripped to the bare essentials and used as a base and/or reference to build something entirely new

    As a Sonic the Hedgehog game, this is a vast expansion of my previous "Sonic the Hedgehog" template, and adds many more "Sonic" features, including both Tails and Knuckles. The original "Test Zone" is still included, as well as this "Gemstone Garden Zone", and the complete Green Hill Zone as reproduced in the 2008 demo of my own Sonic the Hedgehog: Project Mettrix. This new level demonstrates several features not available in the others, such as much greater use of color, palette and background swapping, and an underwater section. There are even a few objects unique to this level, including two new bosses!

    Note: I recorded and uploaded this video at 60fps before I realized that Youtube would convert it to 30fps, which has destroyed some effects that rely on 60fps frame updates. These include:

    -The Sonic 2 blue shield is supposed to flash between an outter and inner frame to simulate translucensy (this video shows either only the outside or only the inside)

    -When spinning quickly, Sonic is supposed to flash between a solid blue ball and one of each of his four other spinning frames in sequence (this video shows only the four spinning frames, or only the solid frame)

    -Sonic can sometimes get fast enough for his running animation to update once per frame (this video shows stuttery animation)

    -The Chaos Emeralds on the Special Stage results screen are supposed to flash (this video shows them solid)

    -When hit, some of the boss machine blacks are supposed to flash white (this video sometimes shows no white, or only white)

    -The ground is supposed to shake up and down every frame when the first boss drills into walls and during the transition (this video shows what appears to be stable ground with an occasional twitch)

    -The bombs for the second boss are supposed to flash red for a single frame every time they beep (in this video, that sometimes isn't shown)
