Title
Memory Kinetics as a Basis for Scale-up and Optimization
Description
This session establishes methods for measuring the rates of memory allocation and reclamation in the young generation, the object lifespan, the rate of spillage into the old generation, and the cost of garbage collection (GC). As the application scales up with more CPUs and heavier traffic, the GC behaviors respond nonlinearly. The relationship between the kinetic profile and the application behaviors are established. The results are used to determine transaction throughput and to optimize GC configuration. Trial-and-error memory configuration is replaced with predictable optimization based on the measured application characteristics and the GC kinetics.
