Title

Lessons from Mathematics

Description

Although the tools of discrete and continuous mathematics can seem esoteric, they offer insights into wide-ranging technical situations, including designing the Java programming language. This session includes examples of concepts from stochastics, real analysis, and numerical optimization influencing JDK-related efforts. For example, vector norms were used in the feature selection of Project Coin and rate of convergence is a helpful project management tool.
Math can be hard but very useful, even without all the details!
