Developing Embedded and Cloud Java Apps for Routers, Gateways, and Storage Devices

NETGEAR has built a Java OSGi-based platform for developing apps that can be downloaded onto consumer electronics such as routers or NAS devices. By including this "smart network" technology on each of its routers, gateways, and storage devices, the company is enabling third-party developers to create apps for previously closed systems. This architecture enables users to personalize and customize their devices for specific consumer needs by downloading supporting applications on each device. For example, users can turn their simple router into a file-sharing or streaming device.
