Title

Creating Gestures for Rich Desktop Touchscreen GUI Creation

Description

Touchscreens are becoming more and more popular, largely due to gesture technology. Without gestures, GUIs that utilize touchscreens usually involve buttons. Gestures enable touchscreens to offer a truly rich interactive GUI interface. Java has a few tools for creating gestures but no library of gestures ready to use. This session goes over the tools available, shows how to create gestures, and discusses research under way by the U.S. Navy to create a library of gestures ready to be used in Java GUIs. The primary tool it discusses is MT4J (Multitouch for Java). Attendees will leave with knowledge of what gestures offer for rich GUI design and a basic understanding of how to create their own gestures.
